Blowin´ Horns BigBand
The founding of the first BigBand dates back to 1975, brought to life by the then director of the JMK (Jugendmusikkorps), Mr. Hans Wollgast. The aim at that time was to get the young musicians of the Youth Music Corps to become friends with lighter brass music.
When the municipal music school was founded in 1997, the BigBand was then put on its own feet.
In addition to a large number of main subject courses, the subject BigBand was offered as an additional supplementary subject in order to deepen the ensemble work in this regard. This project has been a successful additional offer over the years. Many great, banging performances took place, and the musicians can also look back on a successful participation in the Youth Jazz competition.
The current director, Frank Brixel, of the newly formed BLOWIN' HORNS BIGBAND of the Municipal Music School in Bad Kissingen, himself played in the youth music corps as a young trumpeter. Meanwhile and afterwards also in the big band and jazz combo of the music school. This is how he discovered his passion for jazz and big band music.
The result was a music degree in jazz trumpet in Frankfurt. Ever since he came to the municipal music school as a teacher 1.5 years ago, it has been a matter close to his heart to re-establish a BigBand "in its old size".
In the last school year, rehearsals were initially only started on a project basis. It took some time until a playable cast was found. Since September, the rehearsals with the 22-strong ensemble have been taking place every 14 days.
BigBand literature is played from swing to Blues, Soul, Funk, Pop, Rock, Charts and everything else that goes with it and is fun.
Titles are heard from Frank Sinatra to Adéle, from Michael Bublé to Antônio Carlos Jobim and Herbie Hancock to rock bands à la Journey or Survivor...
